1. The spider bites the fly and starts to wrap it in silk, wait for it to die, then begin to eat it. As a first step in eating the spider will literally vomit digestive fluid over the fly.
2. The fly’s fate is sealed, it is either paralyzed or dead from the spider’s venom. The spider continues to wrap silk around the fly.
3. The digestive juices of the spider contain powerful enzymes that liquefy the fly into a much-like pulp.
4. The spider starts to chew the liquified fly with its ‘jaws’ (chelicerae) and the fluid is sucked back into the mouth. Â The spider repeats this process as often as necessary to digest, and ingest, all but the inedible hard parts. What is discarded afterwards is a small ball of residue.
