Marbled White

While on a trip from Birmingham to London I stopped at a service station on the M40 just outside Oxford. I was on a business trip so didn’t have the 7D or the 40D, however I always take the G12 because its so much smaller and convenient. Anyway, I decided to go for a walk along a meadow-like embankment and much to my delight captured these Marbled Whites. While fairly common in southern England, in Wales, colonies are restricted to the extreme south, in Monmouthshire, Carmarthenshire and Glamorgan.

The focusing on the G12 is painfully slow compared to the DSLR and the bright conditions were far from ideal. With this particular capture I wanted to show the environment so zoomed out to the widest angle setting and focused to within centimetres of the butterfly. The smaller sensor on these bridge cameras does a pretty good job in capturing a wide depth of field.
