Small Blue

Cupido minimus

Small Blue

Our smallest butterfly, its dainty appearance and rounded wings with silvery-blue undersides. These are dotted with black, lacking the orange found in most blues and more resembling a tiny Holy Blue. The upperside is blue in the male, unlike the female which is dark brown. The male has a subtle blue sheen against the brown colour of its body. Found in sheltered grassland where its food plant Kidney Vetch grew in abundance.
