Dotted Border

Agriopis marginaria

Dotted Border

The male has orange-brown forewings with a paler yellowish band and a row of dots along the edge of the wing which gives it its common name. The hind wings are whitish with a faint band. There are also melanic forms. The adults are active from February to April, the male sometimes attracted to the light. This particular specimen was captured basking with its wings open in the early morning sun. The female of the species has only vestigial wings and is totally flightless.
